Welcome to the Getting Started Page

 

Getting started is the often the hardest part of doing home modifications. This page is meant to provide you with some information on how to get started. Below you will find some resources that might be helpful. Simply click on the link to either take you to a website with more information or provide you with a document that you can print off.

  

Resources for Getting Started: 

 

1. Modification Checklist

This is a guide developed by CMHC (Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation).  It describes the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) for people with disabilities.  It has almost one hundred practical suggestions for improving accessibility and a detailed checklist to help in home modification planning.  It is a must-have for anyone planning on making home modifications.  It is not available online or in PDF format, but can be ordered for FREE.  Click on the link above to order your own copy!

 

2. Barrier Free Design Guide 2008

This is a Guide developed by Alberta Municipal Affairs with assistance from the Alberta Safety Codes Council.

 

3. Alberta Safety Codes Council

This is a link to the Alberta Safety Codes Council.  It is unique to Alberta as no other province has an organization quite like it. If you need information on safety codes, check out this website.
