Alberta Services Tip Sheet: This is a consumer tip sheet about home renovation contracts and information on working with prepaid contractors.  Before you hire a contractor to do renovations, it is important to be informed. 

Better Business Bureau in Central and Northern Alberta

Canadian Home Builders' Association: This is a link to the website of the Alberta chapter.  The Canadian Home Builders' Association is the voice of the residential construction industry in the province.  Please check out this website to find out more information.

http://www.servicemagic.com/:  This site will match you (and your project) to prescreened home improvement contractors, who will then contact you to discuss your needs in more detail.

Handy Canadian:  On this website you can post your project for contractors to see.  You can also use the Contractor Directory to locate the right service professional for your project.

Kijiji:  This is a local website for classified advertisements.  This link is for the Edmonton version but you can choose other cities at www.kijiji.com

Yelp:  This website is a site for reviewing contractors.  You can find a business and see what real people have written about them. 

The Edmonton Journal classifieds can also be very useful.

If someone has an injury as a result of a motor vehicle accident, they will be dealing with the auto side of the insurance company. They can ask their insurance representative for a contact on the property side of the auto insurance and they have property assessors that can do estimates as to what is a reasonable contractor price. The auto insurance adjusters do not always know or think of this but when it is presented to them, they think it is great.
